More than 200 local contractors have been awarded over 2700 jobs through the NT Government's $69 million Housing Stimulus.
The Stimulus aims to create and support local jobs through repairs and maintenance to our public housing stock.
So far more than 270 vacant properties have been renovated by local contractors and returned to public housing stock as part of a plan to increase housing, support Territory business and create jobs.
More than 3000 other homes have had works completed under the job-creating Stimulus Program announced in February this year.
Houses at the following locations have been handed back to the Department of Housing and Community Development for allocation:
- Darwin - 167
- Alice Springs - 86
- Tennant Creek - 13
- Katherine - 6
- Nhulunbuy - 1
The total spend, including rebuilds, repairs, maintenance so far is $51,874,000.

Minister for Housing and Community Development Gerry McCarthy said: "Jobs and housing are absolute priorities for the Territory Labor Government, and our $69 million Housing Stimulus has delivered on both fronts.
"Works have been carried out by local contractors across the Northern Territory and include complete rebuilds, new kitchens and bathrooms, driveways, roofing, painting and general maintenance."
