The Mangarrayi Rangers group provides for four ranger positions to provide environmental and cultural heritage management.
Jawoyn corporation will take over management of the Mangarrayi Rangers in the Katherine region.
The rangers were fomerly managed by the Roper River Landcare Group.
Mangarrayi rangers will continue to be based in Jilkminggan.
Senator Nigel Scullion, and CLP Candidate for Lingiari, Jacinta Price, congratulated the Corporation.
“Jawoyn Association Aboriginal Corporation is highly experienced in delivering ranger projects and currently manage the successful Jawoyn Rangers,” Minister Scullion said.
“I am committed to seeing Indigenous Advancement Strategy funding primarily directed to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations to deliver results for their local communities.
Ms Price said the Mangarrayi Rangers protect Aboriginal heritage and care for country through environmental and natural resource management, community development and education.
“A focus of their crucial work has been management of invasive species and unmanaged fires in the Roper River Catchment area.
The Jawoyn Association Aboriginal Corporation has leased space for the Rangers through the Jilkminggan Community Aboriginal Corporation, further contributing to the local economy.
Operating out of Jawoyn headquarters in Katherine, the corporation already manages 10 permanent rangers supported by a full-time coordinator.
In the high season, it has more than 40 rangers working on its programs in managing and preserving country, while providing jobs and contributing to improved social, cultural and environmental outcomes.
