This week the 16th annual Melbourne Cup Tour aims to bring the community together to honour Amy ‘Dolly’ Everett.
Dolly’s Dream spokesperson Fiona Collins said the visit will be a wonderful opportunity for Katherine to come together and share the magic of the Melbourne Cup trophy.
“The Cup is a very special piece of Australian history and it is a once in a lifetime opportunity to actually get to hold the iconic trophy. When I told Kate and Tick (Dolly’s parents) about the Melbourne Cup Tour visiting Katherine, they thought I was joking,” Mrs Collins said.
“It is going to be an awesome couple of days. Everyone involved with Dolly’s Dream is indebted to Chris Symons for his support in spreading the anti-bullying message and Kate and Tick are look forward to meeting Chris in person,” she said.
Jockey Chris Symons will be joining the Cup Tour during its visit to Katherine.
Mr Symons has played an big part in spreading awareness surrounding bullying and enabling a positive change for other young lives.
He was the driving force behind the blue breeches campaign, which kicked off at Flemington Racecourse earlier this year and saw jockeys across Australia ride in blue breeches in memory of Dolly.
The tour of the NT begins this Friday with a visit to Casuarina Street Primary School and Katherine School of the Air.
Following the school visit, the iconic trophy will stop in at the Tindal RAAF Base.
Then come Saturday, the 18-carat gold trophy will attend the biggest social event of the year, the Katherine Races, where visitors are encouraged to wear blue to support Dolly’s Dream.

Kate and Tick Everett are expected to ride into the Mounting Yard carrying the Melbourne Cup trophy before the running of the Dolly’s Dream Stock Horse Race at 1pm.
The coveted trophy will also be on display throughout the day for visitors to have their photo taken, in exchange for a gold coin donation to Dolly’s Dream.
The Everett family is closely linked to the racing industry through Dolly’s aunt, Lacey Morrison, who was a former champion apprentice and trainer in Queensland.
