Seventy girls from six Katherine region teams hit the ground running this month for Girl Power AFL Gala Day at Barunga.
Both novice and skilled AFL players from years three to six competed in the round robin tournament to be crowned the 2018 Girl Power Champions.
Barunga, fittingly, took out the winning title.
The aim of Girl Power was to engage girls through sport and increase female participation in AFL.
The day kicked off with a skills session run by Katherine High School students who were new to the sport but had learnt the skills in previous weeks during an all-girls AFL class.
Organiser Kiera Lansdown from Clyde Fenton Primary Sschool said: “It was an incredible day to watch so many girls who had never played AFL before give it a go and do an excellent job.”
