Inspired by the words of revered Gurindji/Malngin leader Vincent Lingiari, ”that land…I still got it on my mind,” Still in my mind reflects on events preceding and following the seminal Gurindji Walk Off – where Lingiari led over 200 countrymen, women and children off Wave Hill Station to protest poor wages and conditions.

Curator and participating artist Brenda Croft developed the exhibition through long-standing practice-led research with her father’s community, Karungkarni Art and Culture Aboriginal Corporation and UNSW Galleries, UNSW Art & Design.

“Rarely does the Katherine community have the opportunity to see an exhibition of this standard that is so relevant to our region. It is a privilege to be able to host Still in my mind, and we hope the community will enjoy coming to see it.” Clare Armitage, Godinymayin Arts and Culture Centre curator, said.

“We are luckier still to have curator Brenda Croft and artists from Karungkarni Art attending our opening night as well as doing a floor talk the next day – Saturday, September 8 at 11am. This is a unique opportunity for people to hear from curator and artists who have produced such a powerful and significant exhibition.” Ms Armitage said.

Still in my mind: Gurindji location, experience and visuality exhibition opening night will be September 7 at 6pm.

Exhibition dates will be September 7 to October 14.

All members of the public are welcome to attend these free events.
