The important shortcut for many residents also became an unfortunate attempted shortcut for a road train on Wednesday night.
The road train was removed yesterday after stockfeed pellets were removed to lighten the loaded from a tipped over trailer, one of three on the road train.
The heavily laden road train came undone trying to climb the bank to the Victoria Highway from the Low Level Crossing.
Sources at the scene claim the road train is rated at 100 tonnes in weight while the crossing is signposted for 20 tonnes.
The road train successful negotiated the crossing but was not able to climb the hill.
The road was damaged in the process as well.
Police are investigating.
