Police were recruiting in Katherine today to provide information for those interested in join up.
Set up in the Woolworths Complex, the recruiters will be on hand until 5pm to answer questions.
Further to that, an information session is being held tonight at 6pm at the Katherine Town Council.
The NT Government made a commitment to provide at least 75 local jobs through the new police auxiliaries program, an NT Police spokesman said, which is expected to return police officers back to the front line.
The first squad of Police Auxiliary Liquor Inspectors graduated from their 13-week training program on August 20 and have already started active duties in Alice Springs.
Training for squad 56 has begun this month, and the final squad will begin training once recruitment is complete.
Katherine is set to receive 22 of the new police auxiliaries to take over bottle shop duties from regular police, but not until next year.
The Recruit Auxiliary training course is delivered by staff from the Northern Territory Police Fire and Emergency Services College.
The course takes approximately seven weeks.
After successful completion of the course, auxiliary officers are placed in either Darwin, Katherine, Alice Springs or Tennant Creek.
