Set to open next year in April, the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre (NCCTRC) was established following the 2002 Bali bombings.
Developed by NT Airports, NCCTRC is a key element of the Australian Government’s disaster and emergency medical response to incidents of national and international significance.
“The new facility will include a warehouse to house the deploy-able capability including a state- of-the-art surgical field hospital and office space to allow for the coordination of the deployable clinical workforce,” NCCTRC executive director professor Len Notaras said.
“It will also provide capacity to expand the disaster preparedness training for the Asia-Pacific region.”
NT Airport director of property Ross Baynes said he is proud of the partnership with the NCCTRC.
“Darwin International Airport is fast becoming well-known for developing ground-breaking projects.
“We’re pleased to have engaged, yet again, a local builder Jaytex to construct this state of the art emergency disaster preparedness facility.”
The facility will be located across from CareFlight and the TEMRS facilities on Lancaster Road, ensuring compatibility and functionality for a master planned emergency medical precinct.
