Competing in the women's touch competition, the Katherine team travelled over 500km to take on four other teams.
Taking on tough competition the team played enthusiastically well, coach Jack “Kook” Gala said.
“Despite the girls not winning a game they all played with enthusiasm and courage,” he said.
While the day started off cool, Mr Gala said, by the middle of the day the girls were playing in extremely hot conditions.
“They did extremely well despite the hot weather,” he said.
“I took the girls to compete to get more experience and to bond as a team. They came away with both.”
With strong competition on the day, only three girls on the team knew the ins and outs of the game, Mr Gala said.
“Most of the girls are very new to the sport and are still learning the ropes. I think they did especially well considering the teams they were playing against were all very experienced,” Mr Gala said.
The women’s touch competition was the second last game of the year for the Katherine Girls team.
The team is currently organising to take on a Darwin team in December.
