The largely Barunga-based side performed consistently throughout the three-day event, going on to secure the Division 2 win after defeating St Mary’s 6/2 in the final round on Sunday.
Deputy Mayor and Arnhem Crows Captain, Helen Lee, says the women had to dig deep in the sweltering Top End conditions to take home the win.
“It was hard work, but we were very determined to come out on top,” she said.
“Competing at the Territory level is difficult in any sport when you’re a remote team, so you have to make the most of the opportunity when you have it.
“It was a great competition and we’re really excited to have won.”
The team were proudly sponsored by a number of local organisations, including Roper Gulf Regional Council and the Barunga Local Authority.
Ms Lee says the support of all sponsors was greatly appreciated in helping the team take part in the competition.
“We couldn’t do it without Roper Gulf Regional Council and the funding we got through council from the NT Government,” she said.
“Thanks to everyone who participated in the competition, and to those who supported the team.”
The role of regional councils was also highlighted during the official presentation, with Softball NT acknowledging the vital contribution councils make in supporting remote teams to take part in structured sports.
