The rapper finally made it to the stage at about 11pm, but the mission was no easy feat.
With no way to pass the bushfire just outside of Kununurra – where the rapper had last performed – a plane to Darwin was the only solution.
He was on the three hour road trip to Katherine as fans were flocking to the venue.
It could have easily been a cancelled show, disappointing many.
As he took to the stage at the Stuart Hotel after a quick meet and greet with select higher paying ticket holders, he had the frenzied crowd vying for a place at the front.
The small heaving mosh-pit was standing room only.
Performing his latest release songs as well as some better-known oldies, the 80 or so people who had stuck around for the show were treated to an intimate hands-distance experience.
Bow Wow is part of a very small group of big international stars to have performed in Katherine.
Last year, Sean Kingston performed at the YMCA to hundreds of screaming youth.
And earlier in the year, Australian pop duo The Veronicas dropped by for a cracker of a night on Territory Day.
With each big act that passes through Katherine it becomes more and more clear that this town has a real appetite for live music.
The NT music promotion business behind Bow Wow’s Top End performances is Urban Xclusive.
Intent on bringing big name international acts to regional towns, event organiser DJ Vella said “there is a niche in Katherine that reacts really well to RnB acts.”
Urban Xclusive is striving to support successful international acts to map through and promote the Territory as a great music destination for touring artists.
“I found that every time big acts were touring Australia, regional towns were missing out and I thought, ‘why couldn’t these smaller towns get the things that big cities get?’,” he said before the Katherine show.
Bow Wow’s performance was one of the last of his 2018 Australia and New Zealand tour, which saw him perform in all major cities and many regional towns.
