The woman was fishing with her family from a billabong near remote Gan Gan, near Nhulunbuy.
Police said the woman was waist deep in the water when the attack occurred.
The saltwater crocodile was found late yesterday and destroyed by local Indigenous rangers.
The woman’s body has been recovered.
Police were notified about the incident just after 10.30am.
Officers from Lake Evella and Nhulunbuy were working with local rangers and the community to search nearby waterways for the woman.
