Over the past four days the students have been helping brighten the walls of the school with their own artwork.
Darwin graffiti artist Taylor Smith has taken the student’s best pieces, created over a year in their modified certificate of education, and graffitied them onto the outside of the school.
While the graffiti is an interpretation of the original artwork, Mr Smith said he has stuck closely to the original drawing.
Kintore Street School teacher Robert Paynter said the work fills the ‘skills’ requirements of the Duke of Edinburgh award.

“It is an outward expression of their work, of what these kids can do,” Mr Paynter said.
“Both the kids and their parents are very excited about seeing the work on this wall,” he said.
Funded through the Duke of Edinburgh award, the project builds positively on the student’s skills.
“The students spent many hours last year and this year creating the art work for this project,” Mr Paynter said.
“The students had free reign to create whatever they wanted, we have been working on the skills they are good at and show an interest in to build confidence.
“It helps with self-esteem to see their artwork publicly acknowledged.”
Mr Paynter said he hopes to eventually fill the wall with student artwork.
The graffiti artist is well know at Kintore Street School having visited last year to create a wall-sized mural.
This trip, the adjacent wall, which was a blank canvas before, has been reinvented to depict a large and happy Brontosaurus, brightening the school’s playground.
The artist said the dinosaur fitted in with the original work.
“He needed to be a big, happy, friendly dinosaur, there is nothing scary about him.”
Today is the last day of the project and students have been busy adding finishing touches to the murals.
The ‘skills’ section of the Duke of Edinburgh Award encourages young people to develop their talents, increase their self-confidence and improve their employability.
