Senator Nigel Scullion said the Katherine book was one of five Territory projects to receive Federal Government funding for projects to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armistice of the First World War.
“This book will be a fitting tribute to appropriately acknowledge the end of the war 100 years ago and an interesting insight into those serving here in the Territory,” Senator Scullion said.
“I am also delighted to see that the National Servicemen's Association of Australia will receive $7600 in funding to hold a 100th Anniversary Commemorative service at the Adelaide River War Cemetery on Armistice Day. For several years I was the emcee at Anzac Day services at the Adelaide River War Cemetery and am sure it will be a moving and fitting service there.
“These grants have been designed to deliver local projects and activities to communities like ours to commemorate Australia’s role in the First World War and pay tribute to service men and women and the Armistice Centenary.”

Ms Price said Alice Springs Town Council would use funding of $15,455 to build a new memorial garden dedicated to local service men and women in Alice Springs.
“Another Alice Springs project will see the Alice Springs Peace Action Think Tank, in conjunction with community radio station 8CCC, develop a phone app for visitors to play audio vignettes of First World War stories on top of Anzac Hill thanks to funding of $9900,” Ms Price said.
“The Wagait Beach cenotaph will be renewed and extended with an investment of $3182 to Wagait Shire Council.
“The commitment of these organisations ensures communities like ours can preserve our local history for future generations.”
The NT organisations receiving funding for community projects to commemorate Australia’s wartime history and the 100th anniversary of the Armistice were recently announced by the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Darren Chester.
