Delivering the workshop, Business Transition manager at TeamHEALTH Daisy Clingan said the training aims to better equip GPs with more knowledge, understanding and the necessary skills for handling NDIS Access Requests.
“It’s all about giving GPs a better understanding of their role in the NDIS eligibility testing process and what clinical evidence is required to support an NDIS application,” Ms Clingan said.
Funded by the Northern Territory Primary Health Network (NTPHN), the training provides a solid NDIS overview and what it will mean for Australians living with a disability, as well as valuable information about what is required to complete an NDIS Access Request.
Ms Clingan said the training is useful for GPs or all other health professionals who are supporting a patient with an NDIS application.
“The idea behind the training was how best to address the transient nature of the Northern Territory of both residents and health professionals. It is quite common that a GP will not have a long-term relationship with the patient they are supporting the NDIS access request for,” Ms Clingan said.
This training addresses what sources are required to support that evidence and what information can be useful to complete the clinical diagnosis information.”
The first course was delivered in Darwin in October and the first workshop to take place in Katherine is on November 12.
“Creating awareness is top of mind and we’ve had an enthusiastic response in both Katherine and Alice Springs. I’m really looking forward to visiting these regions over the next month and learning more about how we can support GPs and help address the specific issues they are facing,” Ms Clingan said.
The training is suitable for allied health professionals including psychologists, occupational therapist and speech therapists, who will also need to know what to do when providing the clinical evidence for an NDIS access request application.
NTPHN and TeamHEALTH invites all health professionals to attend the ‘Steps to Access’ workshop.
This interactive face-to-face education workshop was created from questions asked by GPs regarding the NDIS.
The course is accredited with both RACGP and ACCRM points.
