Nitmiluk Tours took home the Luxury Accommodation category for Cicada Lodge, Qantas Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Tourism Award for Nitmiluk Tours, as well as Tourism Restaurants & Catering Services for Cicada Restaurant and receiving a Highly Commended award for Cultural Tourism.
Additionally, Nitmiluk National Park has won the Award for Major Tourist Attraction in the Northern Territory.
Tom Curtain, the star of the Katherine Outback Experience, also won a Brolga, one of many awards for Tom this year.
“The annual Brolgas tourism awards program is a chance to recognise those contributing to the growth and sustainability of the Northern Territory tourism industry and to acknowledge excellence across the board,” chief operating officer Sveva Falletto said.
“Winning any sort of recognition of our tourism products is a testament to the passion, creativity and hard work of our entire team, our local operational and business partners and the Jawoyn people.”
Jane Runyu-Fordimail, chief executive officer of Nitmiluk Tours and proud Traditional Owner, was extremely pleased with the result.
“Cicada Lodge and Nitmiluk Tours were developed out of a dream to showcase the Nitmiluk region and the culture of our owners, the Jawoyn people. In all aspects of the operation we strive to achieve and deliver on that promise. I am extremely proud of our Team” she said.
Nitmiluk Tours is the tourism operation of the Jawoyn Association whose role it is to provide human services, cultural and land management programs, business enterprises and forward planning to support employment and training for the Jawoyn people.
