Mr Patterson is recovering at The Alfred hospital in Melbourne after being injured during the Bourke Street attack on Friday.
He received a knife wound to the head, and remains in a stable condition.
Mr Patterson said though he was not yet ready to discuss the experience, he wanted to thank the Launceston community for their support and well wishes.
“Please pass on to all your readers my appreciation for their support to myself and my family,” he said.
Mr Patterson is well-known in the Launceston community for his involvement in the South Launceston Football Club, and for being a franchisee of Launceston’s Autobarn until earlier this year.
