Two day totals for the town have reached 44.4mm.

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting the chance of more rain to come over the next week.

The rain has come for a blessing for homeowners in particular who are still wrestling with odds and evens water restrictions.

Most areas of the NT, including Katherine, have been tracking at around or below average rainfall for the wet season to date.

Katherine has had a dry start to the wet with just 22.8mm in October against an average of 29.8mm but as locals will tell you, it is all about storms and being under them at the right time.

The November average for Katherine is 93.3mm so we have a way to go yet.

The bureau says we are three times more likely than average to see an El Niño form this year – this climate pattern typically means lower rainfall totals during the build-up and a later start to the monsoon onset which is usually during the last two weeks of December.
