Telstra is encouraging NT’s small and medium businesses, as well as not-for-profit organisations and social enterprises, to make 2019 the year they put their business in the spotlight by nominating for the Awards.
According to the company, 2018 was a record-breaking year for the number of nominations in Telstra’s Awards program, however, there was also an 18 per cent decrease in self-nominations compared to 2017.
Telstra Business Awards Ambassador and Acting Group Executive, Telstra Consumer and Small Business, Michael Ackland, said business owners should back themselves and take a chance by nominating for this year’s Awards.
“A successful business owner is a special breed with unique characteristics. They’re hungry. They’re creative. They’re bold. But at times, they’re also unsure.
“Having no one to answer to can be liberating, but it can also foster as much self-doubt as it can confidence.
“Applying for the Telstra Business Awards is a great way to put your business to the test and prove to yourself that you’re better than you think you are,” he said.
Last year, two Katherine businesses were among 18 finalists in the 2018 Telstra NT Business Awards.
NT Friendship and Support and Australian Red Cross Services Katherine were recognised out of a record 10,000 nominations.
At the time, acting regional manager of Katherine Red Cross Bill Daw said the recognition showcased the work Red Cross puts into the community.
“It shows all of the hard work we have done with partners is paying off,” he said.
Now in its 27th year, the awards program is designed to help business people analyse, evaluate and improve their operations, and thrive in the future.
Sarah Brown, CEO of Purple House, and 2018 Telstra NT Business of the Year, urged other businesses to nominate and enter the Awards.
“Winning was an unexpected honour. It was further recognition that we can compete with the big boys, and has brought on opportunities to engage with new audiences. It was worth the effort and I’d encourage any business to make the most of this opportunity,” she said.
