Today we bring you pictures of the river at Katherine from this exact time over the past three years to show you exactly how the monsoons have failed Katherine so far.
Today the Katherine River at Katherine was 5.2m and rising slowly, while last year the level was at 12 metres on the gauge and in 2017 it was about nine metres.
The river has barely touched the first marker on the railway bridge this wet.
Today we saw the river is well above the low level bridge, and has flooded the hot springs – but is well below that of previous years.
Katherine has officially recorded almost 80mm since Sunday but continues to rely on storm activity with most of the monsoon activity still in north Queensland.
The forecast for the rest of the week is for “possible thunderstorms”.
On our investigation today, Katherine Town Council can breathe a sigh of relief as we discovered the mothballed hot springs project has been untouched by any rising water as of yet.
