Katherine East appears to have been hardest hit by the late night storm with falls of about 40mm recorded across the area.
The official Bureau of Meteorology total (recorded at Tindal) was just 2mm.
Tindal’s weather station also recorded a highest wind gust of about 57kmh about 10.30pm when the storm hit, speeds would have been much higher in Katherine.
Some residents are today saying some trees may have been weakened by last week’s ferocious storm and were not able to withstand last night’s blast.
