Last night Darwin made history. And I was there. More than 3000 people from across ages, races, and the Top End regions comprised the largest gathering organised by Christians ever in Darwin.
And it was for anyone, anywhere, not just Christians. Not even mainly for Christians.
No expense was spared to make it happen. Five buses were chartered from Katherine, two buses came all the way from Beswick. Many more were chartered all around Darwin. For a free ride there and back. No strings attached.
This was repeated across other capital cities this week. The expense will be in the order of millions of dollars. It was funded by people elsewhere who will never meet us, have never been here and likely never will.
All for what? No financial gain, no political traction, no ‘tangible benefit’. But to get this one message across:
God your maker loves you, his son Jesus died to take away your shame and sin so you can be cleansed and connected with God.
Why pour millions of dollars into something like this with no return?
With news of love as good as this, any expense is worth it. For love.
