Cleaning and tidying can be so exhausting, and almost never ending. We’ve just moved house. At the exit inspection, for all the work we’d done, there were still imperfections.
It got me to thinking how we’d fare if we had an exit inspection on our lives. Our inner life is much less sorted and far less obvious to others.
Dealing with an untidy lawn, or a faulty lightbulb is simple compared to what’s going on inside of us.
I suspect though, as touchy as we might be about our exterior, we’re even more so about our selves. Pointing out flaws is sometimes called being judgmental
But I didn’t think this of the property manager who inspected my house. They pointed things out so that I could fix them. It was necessary, and for good.
Tidying our town is up to us, as is tidying our homes.
But when Jesus points out a fault in our lives it’s so we can ask him to clean it up. That isn’t judgmental, it’s generous love.
