As well, this same 38-year-old was stopped three separate times within a week and charged with serious traffic offences.
The woman was first stopped by police last Monday.
Her vehicle had extensive damage to the right hand panels, a missing door handle, and sharp shards protruding from the right hand mirror and bumper, police said.
The woman was subjected to roadside drug analysis which returned a positive reading for methamphetamine.
Police conducted a search of the vehicle which located a used syringe next to a five-year-old passenger.
The vehicle was defected and the woman was arrested and conveyed to Katherine Police Station for secondary testing with results pending.
On that occasion she was charged with:
- Drive Child Unrestrained
- Learner Driver No Person Front Seat
- Fail To Produce Licence On Request
- Drive Without L Plates
- Drive Unsafe Motor Vehicle
- Drive Motor Vehicle With Defect Label
Three days later, on Thursday, the same woman was seen driving the same unsafe vehicle travelling in the wrong direction on a one way street.
Police stopped her again and she allegedly returned a positive result for prohibited drug following a roadside drug analysis.
A secondary analysis at Katherine Police Station returned a positive reading for cannabis, police said.
That time she was charged with:
- Driver With Prohibited Drug In Body
- Drive Without L Plates When Required
- Fail To Produce Licence On Request
- Drive Motor Vehicle Unsafe To Drive
- Drive Wrong Way On A One Way Street
- Interfere With Defect Label
- Drive Motor Vehicle With Defect Notice
- Learner Driver With No Person Front Seat
Finally the next day, on Friday in Katherine, she was seen driving a different vehicle this time and was again pulled over by police.
She was subjected to another drug analysis which returned a positive reading for amphetamine and cannabis.
She was charged with:
- Drive Whilst Disqualified
- Drive with Prohibited Drug in Body
- Breach Bail
The woman was remanded in custody and issued with an immediate licence suspension.
She is due to appear in Katherine Local Court tomorrow.
Sergeant Ian Kennon said the actions of the woman are extremely disappointing.
“This woman put the lives of herself and others at risk not once but three times. She clearly has not learnt her lesson based on her actions. Anyone disobeying the law can expect to suffer the consequences each time,” he said.
