Dr McMahon is seeking to replace the retiring Nigel Scullion in the Senate for the Territory.
Historically the CLP and ALP share the Territory's Senate positions.
Joshua Burgoyne remains the CLP's number two Senate candidate.
CLP president, Ron Kelly, last night said Sam and Joshua would be a fierce Senate team that would fight hard for the Territory.
“While Nigel leaves big shoes to fill, I believe Sam McMahon will be an absolute cracker of a candidate who will do an outstanding job representing Territorians in the Federal Parliament.
“Sam is an accomplished Veterinarian and small business woman with national and international experience and who has Veterinary practices in Katherine and Alice Springs and has won numerous awards over the years,” Mr Kelly said.
Dr McMahon said she was humbled and honoured to have been trusted by CLP members to top the Senate Ticket.
“As a long term Territorian I am absolutely passionate about this place and I can’t wait to drive it forward.
“I’ll take nothing for granted and will work incredibly hard to gain the trust of Territorians from Darwin to Alice Springs and every community in between to ensure that at the next election voters clearly understand the risks to both the Territory and to the nation of a Shorten Labor Government.
“I look forward to joining our other fantastic Federal CLP Candidates on the campaign trail to remind voters that only the Coalition can be trusted to manage our economy, create new jobs, protect our borders, balance the budget all while guaranteeing essential services such as Medicare, schools and hospitals,” Dr McMahon said.
The CLP has chosen Kathy Ganley in Solomon and Jacinta Price in Lingiari to contest the lower house positions.
Retiring CLP Senator Nigel Scullion welcomed Sam McMahon’s pre-selection and said that the CLP has put together the best possible team to advocate for a better future for the Territory.
“I am so delighted that Sam will be fighting for Territory families, small businesses, rural communities and Aboriginal Territorians in Canberra.
“As a CLP Senator they will certainly have their work cut out for them but I have every confidence that Sam will do a fine job,” Senator Scullion said.
The ALP's Senator for the NT is Malarndirri McCarthy.
