Since then, he has established Katherine Sports and Family Chiropractic, Laser Clinic Katherine and Katherine Sleep Centre to fill other radiology, health, and beauty needs in Katherine.

"I wanted to provide a private ultrasound service for the Katherine region with an extended range of ultrasound services," Phil said.

"I also wanted to reduce the waiting time for non-urgent ultrasounds which at the time was three-to-four weeks.

"I've been involved from the very first day and now employ 11 staff." 

These include a practice manager, reception, radiographer, sonographer, trainees, chiropractors, beauticians and sleep study technicians.

"We offer CT, ultrasound and X-ray services, chiropractic services, sleep studies, CPAP sales and services, IPL hair removal and beautician services," Phil said.

"For more than half our services we are the only provider in the region.

"We are locally owned and run.

"We are now working in conjunction with NT Health to provide the radiology service within Katherine Hospital, to both improve patient treatment, care, convenience and reduce the overall cost."

The business employs a "great team of staff ... where possible we employ and or train locals. Profits from our business stay in Katherine."

With respect to radiology, the business is installing a state-of-the-art CT scanner and top-of-the line ultrasound with new capabilities.

"It will be able to ... quantify liver disease," Phil said.

"It will also provide better detail for muscle-tendon ultrasounds and breast ultrasounds." Professional advice could mean the difference between life and death, Phil said.

"It can also mean the difference between treatment that can improve outcomes."

He said working in the Katherine community had been rewarding. "Its amazing how many people you get to know quite well."

Katherine Diagnostic Imaging  provides prizes, financial support and fundraising for different charities.
