Darwin was the only Australian capital city to experience population falls in the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
That data shows Darwin's population fell for the first time since 2002, which the government continues to blame on the end of the Inpex construction phase.
Katherine's population rose by a modest 48 people, to 10,621 from 2017 to 2018.
Men continue to outnumber women in Katherine with the population data from 2017 showing about 500 more men living in the Katherine municipality than women.
ABS data for regional population growth within Australia for 2017-18 showed capital cities accounted for 79 per cent of Australia's total population growth.
Sydney and Melbourne grew by 93,411 and 119,421 respectively, Darwin came in with minus 360.
