The money would be used at the aquatic centre to complete the shade cover and upgrade the barbecue areas.
Lingiari MHR Warren Snowdon today said the improvements would ensure pool users have a safe, family friendly environment to enjoy.
He said the announcement complements Federal Labor's plans for a new, national SwimSmart program to make sure Australian children grow up with the water safety skills they need to keep them safe.
"Labor's plan will mean more swimming lessons for primary school students, catch-up lessons for those that need it and more help with the cost of transport and pool entry fees," he said.
"In a region where it is unsafe to swim in any rivers and waterholes residents seek relaxation, recreation and SwimSmart Education at the pool.
"A Federal Labor Government will deliver the $600,000 investment in accordance with the town of Katherine's Masterplan for the Sports Grounds."
Earlier in the year, the Coalition promised $200,000 to help fix the second sports oval at the sportsgrounds.
