The Lindsay Street/Katherine Terrace intersection has received $511,000 in black spot funding for the upgrade with tenders closing soon for the project.
The loss of the U-turn has caused many of the comments.
But the Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics says motorists travelling south-east will be instead able to use the U-turn at Chambers Drive (adjacent the statue), "which has improved visibility and less pedestrian activity".
U-turns for traffic heading north-west on Katherine Terrace, outright banned at the Giles Street traffic lights are another point of conjecture.
Right turning traffic will be banned at Lindsay Street which means traffic wanting to head south-east, as many community buses now do, will be encouraged to head back along Railway Terrace to the Giles Street T-intersection and then to the traffic lights, were they are able to run right.
A traffic island will be built on the existing right turning lane to prevent vehicles from making the turn from Lindsay Street or proceeding straight across.
DIPL says the bus interchange on Railway Terrace will be upgraded.
"Buses will be able to utilise the upgraded bus interchange on Railway Terrace and will be able to safety return to Katherine Terrace via the Giles Street Intersection to either travel north, south or towards Katherine Gorge."
Give Way signs will be replaced with Stop signs as well.
