Last year saw 50 people killed on NT roads as a result of motor vehicle crashes and pedestrian strikes.
The focus of this year's operation, starting today, will be drink and drug driving, speeding, seatbelts and driver distraction.
"The road toll currently sits at eight compared to 18 this time last year," Commander Matthew Hollamby said.
"While this is a vast improvement in comparison, we have still lost eight people who should be with us today.
"It is well known that Easter traditionally sees a higher than usual number of motorists on the road, and people out and about.
"With so many people on holidays and enjoying everything the Territory has to offer, it is more important than ever for road users to make good decisions and do their part to make the road a safe place for everyone.
"Police urge motorists to think before they drive and to consider their safety and the safety of others before getting into a vehicle.
"Plan ahead, arrange a Sober Bob if you're going to be drinking, and please make your driving the focus when behind the wheel.
"Expect more traffic and be patient.
"We want you to enjoy this Easter so you can enjoy next Easter, too."
