This isn't the first time Hugo's expertise has lead to a bust.
Last year, he sniffed out drugs hidden in the spare tyre of a Katherine man's car. And in another Katherine case, he located 248 grams of cannabis in clip seal bags.
Yesterday morning, police intercepted a Toyota Land Cruiser Utility travelling along the Nutwood Station Road, just over 200km from Katherine.
According to an NT Police spokeswoman, the vehicle was searched on the roadside, and then again at Mataranka Police Station.
Hugo was able to give a positive indication on a water tank affixed to the tray of the car.
Inside, police allegedly found 1362g of cannabis hidden in plastic packaging.
Police also found an arm-braced sling shot inside the vehicle.
The man, who is believed to be from NSW, has been charged with possession and supply of a commercial quantity of a Schedule 2 substance and possession of a prohibited weapon.
His car has been seized and a request has been made for forfeiture to the crown, the spokeswoman said.
The 65-year-old is to appear before a judge in Katherine Local Court at a later date.
