A local driver travelling to Darwin yesterday came across several unexpected obstacles on their afternoon trip.
A small mob of wild donkeys was eating the green grass on the side of the highway just north of Pine Creek.
Several cattle were roaming freely on the Katherine side of Pine Creek.
As well there are many planned dry season burns blowing concealing smoke in the way of traffic on occasions.
Combined with this is the convoy of slower moving grey nomads with their caravans and the usual road trains to navigate as well.
"It seems the bush has dried out really fast this year and animals are coming out to get what green is left near the road," the driver, who did not want to be named said.
"People just need to take more care than usual."
