Flickerfest is the 28th International Short Film Festival which is coming to Katherine.
The Flickerfest "Best Of Australian Shorts" program is a program of nine Australian short films.
A mix of animation, comedy and drama.
A highlight will be the screening of Lil Bois. This film was shot around Ngukurr, written and directed by Ngandi man Grant Thompson.
Flickerfest is being run to mark 20 years of the film society.
More than 20 years ago, kayak camping trips on Katherine rivers were still a regular past time.
During the rhythmic solitude of a weekend paddle, Neil MacDonald wondered what he could do to give back to his local community.
By the campfire and inspired by wine and discussion the idea of a local film society took hold.
Katherine at the time did not have the cinema so films were screened to a small group wherever they could find a venue.
Then in 1999 the cinema opened and in May the Katherine Film Society screened its first movie there, Paris Texas, to a good turnout of local movie enthusiasts.
Since this beginning, KFS has consistently screened approximately 20 independent, limited release movies and documentaries per year.
The close relationship with the cinema has allowed KFS to screen these beautiful movies in the setting they were made for.
KFS currently has over 200 members and every second Thursday bring sometimes quirky but always interesting movies to Katherine.
This Thursday, June 13, come along to celebrate Katherine Film Society's 20 years of cinema in Katherine, raise a glass in thanks to Neil, Jane and others for their vision splendid.
Then sit back and in two hours experience in compact form a kaleidoscope of Australian cinema.
Thursday, June 13 at 7pm Flickerfest - Best of Australian Shorts
The society's next film is If Beale Street Could Talk on Thursday, June 21.
