It was earlier reported to have been from Maryfield Station which has now been confirmed to be incorrect.
CareFlight flew the 75-year-old man from the Tindal RAAF Base airport to Royal Darwin Hospital.
The man is believed to have come into contact with a rotor while the helicopter was on the ground during the late morning.
It is also believed a private helicopter took the injured man from the station to Tindal where a CareFlight fixed wing plane was waiting in the early afternoon to take him to Darwin.
More information has been sought.
