The man was rushed to Royal Darwin Hospital after a rescue mission which involved flying him by private helicopter to the Tindal RAAF Base civilian airport, and then linking with a CareFlight fixed wing plane.

An elderly man was hit in the head by a helicopter's tail rotor on an outback station, police now believe.
