Territory Day this year falls on Monday, July 1 with an event at the Katherine Showgrounds.

From 5pm, residents will be entertained by rapper Birdz, local talent Serena Pech, the Cockatoo Dancers and Aboriginal Australian electronic music duo Electric Fields.

The free fireworks will ignite from 8pm.

Residents are asked to bring a picnic, or you can purchase food at one of the food stalls on site.

No alcohol or personal fireworks will be permitted.

This year marks 41 years since the Northern Territory was granted Self-Government on 1 July 1978.

Tourism, Sport and Culture Minister Lauren Moss said Territory Day celebrates everything we love about living in the Territory - our lifestyle, the people, the landscape, the culture, our achievements and our diverse communities.

There will be free, family friendly events right across the Territory, with concerts in Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, Katherine and Darwin, and fireworks displays in regional and remote communities.

To ensure as many Territorians as possible can participate, the NT Government is also supporting free, family friendly events in several locations across the Territory, including Palmerston, Coomalie, Cox Peninsular (Wagait), Dundee Beach, Pine Creek, Berry Springs, Nhulunbuy, Maningrida, Kalkarindji Daguragu, Tiwi Islands, Galiwinku, Alyangula - Groote Eylandt and Yulara (Uluru).
