At least year's show I got a prize - but only because third place was also last place. I wasn't just second in a long line of losers. I was the loser.

I'd baked an extravagant fruit cake. It took a month just to soak the fruit in expensive stuff. It tasted (I thought) very good. But it crumbled easily, had surface cracks and an uneven brown colour. I lost to a year-old cake which had been pulled out of the freezer just a week earlier. How embarrassing!
So my expensive (but apparently deficient) cake sat in the exhibit over the weekend, exposed to the elements. Everyone could see I was a loser.
We Christians are used to being losers (and being called losers too).
Despite Jesus coming back from the dead, we put the cross on our logos and our necklaces and our branding. It's almost like we are the losing fruit cakes (yes, I know how that sounds) - on display for all to see our shame.
Perhaps we're just stupid and none of us has noticed it before now.
Or maybe we've learned there's a way to win that doesn't depend on us.
Either way, this year I'm being safe - I've entered chook eggs.
St Paul's Anglican Church meets on Sundays at 9am with kids church. All welcome.
