The video portrays Katherine's tourism, outdoor attractions, Indigenous culture, people and Defence base in a bid to attract more visitors and people looking to relocate.
"There was a gap in our marketing and we wanted to show to the outside world where we live," Katherine Mayor Fay Miller said.
"We are hoping to encourage people to come up and see all that Katherine has to offer, and show off our lifestyle."
But at the annual Katherine Town Council senior citizens morning tea, not all were convinced the video accurately represents the town.
One long term resident who has lived in Katherine for 50 years, and wished to remain anonymous, felt it didn't show enough of the town's facilities and hot spots.
"Katherine has a lot to offer in terms of clubs and social activities, places to swim and shop," she said.
"The video concentrated on people, and it would have been good to have more of a mix."
Another senior citizen said the action and emotion captured in the video will be enough to impress tourists, but will not be enough to keep them here once they have arrived.
"We have enough tourists coming through but it is only for a short period of time during the dry season, and they don't stay long enough," he said.
"Katherine needs more amenities for tourists and people moving here, such as parking and toilets."
He said a bypass should be a top priority on the council's agenda to create the vision the promotional video portrays.
"Trucks and caravans are dangerous for pedestrians and set a bad atmosphere in the middle of the town," he said.
"The video will definitely get people here, but not necessarily keep them here. It represents the Katherine people want to see."
The three minute video includes local appearances from the owner of the Black Russian Caravan cafe, Brogan Hanrahan, school children, local mango pickers, a mother and baby at Katherine Hospital and Katherine Gorge.
The video, made possible through a $30,000 NT Government grant and $10,000 KTC contribution will be cut into shorter grabs and aired on TVs across Australia.
Ms Miller said she is hoping the promotional video will also be included in airports.
The video is expected to be released to the public soon.
