Katherine Superintendent, Daniel Shean said: "The actions of this driver are deplorable; he put the lives of the public and police at risk. Fortunately, on this occasion, no one was injured."
The 26-year-old's Holden Commodore failed to stop early yesterday leading police on a chase through Katherine East.
Police terminated their pursuit after it reached dangerous speeds, after trying to first stop him at 5am, but he ended up crashing into a house fence in Acacia Drive anyway.
Police located the driver near the crash scene, who was arrested and has been charged with the following offences:
- Drive a motor vehicle whilst under the influence of alcohol;
- Drive in a manner dangerous;
- Fail to comply with the direction of a police officer;
- Drive a motor vehicle whilst unlicensed;
- Exceed the speed limit;
- Fail to stop at crash scene;
- Drive and unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle.
Further drink driving charges are pending following the analysis of blood taken from this male at the Katherine District Hospital, police said.
