Saturday saw the 2019 Katherine Softball Grand Final between Rebels and Rockers.
Both teams played strong though out the year with Rebels finishing as minor premiers and Rockers proving they have what it takes when it comes to finals playing in their fifth consecutive grand final.
Rockers opened the game on the bat with a 2 base hit to Francine Bain followed by a safe hit to Jo Delacouer scoring 1 run.
Rebels first bat saw then fire out bringing in 4 runs with a 2 base hit to Georgia Armitage.
In the second inning Rebels held Rockers from scoring with 3 quick outs.
Rebels then went in and put another 4 runs on their tally this time with a 3 base hit to Brooke McHugh.
In the top of the third inning Rebels fielding again proved too strong for Rockers with no runs scored. In turn Rebels got on with 2 more runs.
In the top of the fourth inning Rockers got on base with a safe hit to Libby Ross scoring one run. Rebels also replied scoring one run.
In the top of the fifth inning Rockers went into bat needing runs to stop the run ahead rule, Peta Ross got on with a safe hit but Rebels fielding held on tight not letting Rockers score any runs.
Time and Game was called in the fifth inning with final scores Rebels 11 to Rockers 2.
Brooke McHugh from Rebels picked up the overall best on ground in the grand final but other notable players for Rebels was Pitcher Mel Retchford and catcher Georgia Armitage both working hard in the field and on the bat.
While for Rockers Jo Delacouer was a standout performer getting on base at every turn at bat. Along with Peta Ross and Libby Ross.
Following the game was the 2019 Katherine Softball presentation.
Anne Manfong of Wanderers picked up the best infielder award, Tyronia Shark from Kalano Bombers walked away with the rising star award.
Rebels Mel Retchford was awarded the Best Batter while Francine Bain of Rockers took home the highly notable 2019 Katherine Softballs Most Valuable Player.
Kylie Beniditti, Dot Butler, Mary Moloney, Fiona Hayes and Velma King were recognised for their volunteer work for Katherine Softball along with the Darwin based Grand Final official plate umpire Zoe Webb and Scorer Cheryl Webb.
