A 33-year-old woman has been flown to Royal Darwin Hospital after she was injured whilst hiking at Koolpin Gorge in Kakadu National Park shortly before 1pm yesterday afternoon.
The woman was visiting Darwin from overseas and was walking with her partner when she slipped and injured her back.
On Saturday, a woman in her 70s was also flown to Royal Darwin Hospital after she fell and hit her head while walking near Gunbalanya.
The elderly woman was also visiting the Territory from overseas and was on a walking tour through Arnhem Land when she slipped and sustained a head injury.
In yesterday's emergency, the couple alerted authorities with their satellite phone, and CareFlight's NT Rescue Helicopter was tasked to the area.
CareFlight's flight nurse and doctor were winched down to assess the patient and provide treatment, while the pilot and aircrew officer flew to land on a rock surface nearby.
The helicopter flew back overhead and the patient was loaded onto a stretcher before being winched into the helicopter.
She was flown to Royal Darwin Hospital in a stable condition.
CareFlight praised the pair for their organisation and having a satellite navigation device which allowed the rescue helicopter to quickly pinpoint their location.
CareFlight proudly operates the Top End Medical Retrieval Service on behalf of the NT Government.
