Student Led Conferences at Casuarina Street Primary School are an opportunity for students to share their learning journey with their parents.
Students control discussions relating to their work, their achievements and areas requiring personal development.
Assistant principal Sofia Ali said the teachers collaborate with students and parents to help students reach their goals.
"The conferences allow us to build on existing partnerships with our families and enable all students, at all levels, to celebrate their own growth," she said.
"We have teams of teachers leading improvement agendas by addressing concepts such as student-led creation and review of their work and the adjustments needed by students to reach their learning intentions."
Team leader Grant Smith said students have thrived off the opportunity to own their aims and share these with their parents in a purposeful and meaningful way.
"The connection created between students, teachers and parents during Student Led Conferences has already had a positive impact on students' confidence and achievements," he said.
Tasmyn Drew and Alana Taylor, both early career teachers at Casuarina Street Primary School, strongly believe in the power of Student Led Conferences.
"As an early years' team the biggest aspect is developing young people's ideas of themselves, their ability to succeed in their own learning and to teach them to take ownership and control over their objectives," Tasmyn said.

"Student Led Conferences promote student engagement in the goal-setting process," said Alana. "Students can be more involved in explaining their aspirations and discussing the strategies needed to meet their targets."
Student Akein Jayasekara said the 'useful and purposeful conferences' are opportunities to display works that inspire personal pride.
"You can show your parents the work you are really proud of each semester, or year," he said. "I talk about my goals ... and who will help me."
