The girl's AFL teams from Clyde Fenton Primary School were keen to head to Barunga and take part in the 2019 AFL Pink Power Gala Day.
The school fielded two talented teams in an event touted as a great introduction to female football.
Over the past two years, girl's AFL has flourished at the school due to an engagement program started by physical education teacher Kiera Lansdown and teacher and football coach Marcel Bergman.
Principal Jeff Parker said last year's Gala Day had been a huge success.
"Clyde Fenton Primary School made the three hour drive to Darwin and scored a resounding 47 point victory over grand final opponents Jingili Primary School at TIO Stadium.
"Before the tournament, the years 4, 5 and 6 students had never played AFL together, making the overwhelming result at the one-day event all the more remarkable.
"This year's teams were keen to defend their title, and the girls, who range from years 3 to 6, have trained hard and worked on their skills since the start of the year."
Mr Bergman said all the girls had improved in physical strength and proficiencies, but most pleasing was being able to witness growth in their confidence and interpersonal skills.

Physical education teacher Amy Buick said the school strives to give students opportunities and experiences beyond those they would normally get in school.
"We love to take kids out of their comfort zone, challenge them, support them, and watch them develop and grow," she said.
"The team played very well, but this year the girls from Beswick were just too strong on the day."
Clyde Fenton's champion defender Tio Hughes, who foiled many opposition attacks, was philosophical about the sports fixture.
"Winning would have been good, but knowing that we played our best and had a lot of fun made it all worthwhile.
"I never thought that I would ever play AFL, let alone be a good player and play at gala days. It was awesome."
