Detectives from the Major Crime Squad have charged a 29-year-old male with murder.

The charge relates to the death of a 29-year-old female who was found dead in Holtze Crescent on Tuesday, June 18.

The male is currently remanded in custody and will appear in the Darwin Local Court on Wednesday, September 25.

Police made several call outs for witnesses to what they called a suspicious death in Katherine East.

At about 9am on Tuesday, June 18, police and St John Ambulance paramedics were dispatched to a report of a deceased female at the residence.

A neighbour had told Katherine Times earlier in the week of a loud commotion in the area early that Tuesday and police had attended.

Police would like to speak with any person who may have observed any disturbance between Monday night and Tuesday morning in the vicinity of Holtze Crescent, Callistemon Drive and Maluka Park.

Coincidentally, the alleged murder occurred in same area as the brutal bashing of a 78-year-old man who was put in hospital with severe wounds after being bashed in a frightening home invasion almost a year ago

The man's cowardly attacker has never been identified.
