Fires at Mataranka, Stuart Estate and Edith Farms flared yesterday with winds reaching almost 50kmh in the afternoon.
The Bureau of Meteorology says the wind is expected to reach between 15-20kmh today with temperatures still hovering around the 40 degree mark.
Emergency services last night issued an alert about the big Mataranka fire, which first broke out at Mataranka Station yesterday.
Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service members have been working to contain a number of fires in and around the Mataranka area.
NTFRS assisted by Bushfires NT and Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife have been working with community members to contain and extinguish a number of grass fires in challenging conditions.
One unoccupied demountable has been damaged by fire however there no reported injuries or other structures or vehicles damaged.
A fire continues to burn North of Mataranka with fire crews working throughout the afternoon to put in breaks to slow and contain the fire's movement.
In the alert issued last night a temporary speed restriction was in place on the Stuart Highway north and south of Mataranka with smoke affecting visibility in some areas.
Motorists are urged to drive to the conditions, follow warning signs, turn headlights on in smoke affected areas, and follow directions of emergency service personnel.
The return to still conditions in the evenings has been a continued relief for firefighters trying to get on top of these fast moving fires in tinder dry bush.
