Cropping may be considered for sprawling cattle station Sturt Downs between Katherine and Mataranka.

The almost 68,000 hectare property has been sold for $6.8 million, ABC is reporting today.

It is another purchase for Argentinian agricultural interests which would make it the third NT station bought by Cross Pacific Investments this year.

The sale was handled by Elders.

Earlier in the year, the 101,000 hectare Scott Creek Station, once owned by the Sultan of Brunei, was sold for $12 million by the Gschwenter family to Cross Pacific Investments.

As well, the same company is believed to have been involved in the purchase of 380,000ha Manbulloo Station from Consolidated Pastoral Company just outside Katherine on the Victoria Highway.

Sturt Downs is 70km from Katherine on the Stuart Highway.

Scott Creek is 60km from Katherine on the Victoria Highway.

Manbulloo is just outside Katherine also on the Victoria Highway with lots of frontage to the Katherine River.

CPC immediately leased back the 380,000 hectare Manbulloo to continue its enormous beef operations, chiefly as a supplier of cattle to Asian markets.

The three properties total more than half a million hectares.

ABC has reported Cross Pacific Investments has now spent more than $43 million on Top End land in the last few months.

Cross Pacific Investments is involved in broadacre cropping projects across Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil and the US, producing wheat, barley, peas, lentils, sorghum and cotton.
