The unknown man using some kind of implement smashed windows of CBD businesses and even the windows of parked cars in the area.
The damage happened between 12.20am and 1am in Katherine Terrace.
Police said no buildings were entered as a result.
The man is described as of Aboriginal appearance, skinny build and long dark hair.
He was last seen wearing black jeans, a multi-coloured (red / green / yellow) singlet with a leaf decal on the front.
The man also appeared to have his hair tied in a low bun.
Police in Katherine are currently working with business owners to source further CCTV in an attempt to identify the man.
In August, police said much better high definition CCTV cameras had also been installed in Katherine Terrace and First Street as part of the cyber blitz to stamp out anti-social and criminal behaviour.
Superintendent Daniel Shean from Katherine Division said, "This persons' wanton act of criminal damage will not be tolerated.
"Upon being identified, police will make every effort to ensure he is dealt with swiftly and brought before the court," he said.
If anyone knows this person, his whereabouts or has information which may lead to identifying the person, please contact police on 131444 or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 1800 000 333.
