Police have arrested and charged a 57-year-old man following alleged sexual offences against a child under the age of 16 years.

Police said the alleged incident is believed to have occurred on Sunday.
It was reported to police the following day.
Detectives from Northern Investigations Section have charged the man with sexual intercourse without consent and indecent dealing with a child under 16 years.
He is due to appear in Katherine Local Court today.
A police spokeswoman said the alleged victim is safe and in the care of her family.
