Mr Murtas announced he was leaving the region recently after just over a year in the demanding position.
Last Thursday, the school posted the signed letter from the principal on Facebook addressing the rumours.

"You may have heard talk regarding this matter about an incoming principal, if this is the case please disregard the information you have heard," Mr Murtas said.
"The Department of Education has advertised the principal position to find the most suitable applicant for the job.
"This process is happening quickly and it is projected you will know who the new principal is before the end of the school year."
Prior to being appointed as the principal of Katherine High School, Mr Murtas was the principal of Katherine South Primary and assistant regional director for the Katherine region.
He was handed the reins from Peter Fairchild in June last year, who spent 18 months in the difficult position, but decided "for a variety of reasons" to semi-retire from the public sector.
