From Rapper Kanye and Katherine's Railway Bridge, to this pesky Rev who keeps writing about him. Oh, and this Christmas stuff. And, oddly, in your swearing.
A recent survey found that most Australians wish religious people would shut up. Weirdly most Australians also felt religious people got picked on. Read that again and scratch your head with me.
But we won't shut up, and here's why: for Christians, Jesus is not an accessory to our lives, he's core. He's the one who connects us to God. Being connected to Jesus is more core to me than 'protected attributes' like being a white Australian male.
I'll get provocative. Like sexual orientation, Jesus is part of who I am. Is it right to ask me to suppress that? I won't for a moment pretend to understand what it's like having a different sexual desire - but how about we also don't expect Christians to leave Jesus behind when it doesn't suit someone else.
Jesus doesn't belong in the closet either. Please don't be surprised if Christians make a big deal about him. After all, you can never have too much of a good thing.
St Paul's Anglican Church meets on Sundays at 9am with kids church. All welcome.
